A suffered victory gives air to Villarreal

A long-suffering victory (2-0) against the Swiss Young Boys gave Villarreal air in the Champions League in a match without showing off by Unai Emery’s team against an opponent who was close to taking a better result from La Cerámica.

A goal from Étienne Capoue in the 35th minute allowed Villarreal to retire to the break with an advantage, while two minutes from the end Danjuma and after much suffering scored the goal with which the game closed and that allowed the Spanish team to take all six points in He disputes against the Helvetian team, after also prevailing in the Bern match, and that leaves him in a good situation before the last two days.

Villarreal, who has seven points after four rounds, had a hard time getting into the game against an opponent who, without leaving his defensive strength, started strong and approaching goalkeeper Rulli’s goal.

Although Unai Emery’s team woke up and had greater intensity in their game, the Young Boys would gradually manage to neutralize Villarreal and even had a good chance to get ahead on the scoreboard.

Villarreal tried but could not break through either through the middle or the wings, against a sure rival behind who barely left options.

However, a set piece action allowed the Spanish team to open the scoring in the 35th minute. A cross to the far post by Parejo and played by Mario was used by Capoue to overcome Faivre.

The goal reassured Villarreal after being inaccurate in his actions for much of the first half, especially in the vicinity of his area, and he was close to paying it with a goal against.

Again it was difficult for Villarreal to start in the second half. The inaccuracies and errors increased in his game and although the Young Boys scored, the referee, at the request of the VAR, annulled the goal because an opponent annoyed Rulli in the small area.

But the disallowed goal did not spur Villarreal, who was still blurred and at the mercy of a rival who only needed to hit the rival meters. Emery looked for the reaction giving entrance to Trigueros and Chukwueze by Yeremy and Dia, very subdued all night.

Despite the changes, Villarreal did not manage to take control of the game and his greatest merit was keeping his clean sheet late in the second half after several games in which defensive weakness has marked him. In addition, two consecutive occasions by Danjuma and Trigueros woke up Villarreal in attack and only two great actions by Fauvre prevented the second local goal.

Despite the difficulties to get the ball out, Emery’s team lived their best moments near the Young Boys goal but without the success that gave them peace of mind.
