White Sox hitter Jose Abreu equaled a major league record by blowing up the fence for the fourth straight inning in Sunday’s game against the Cubs. Abreu’s feat was the 43rd time in Major League history that a player has homered in four consecutive plate appearances.
With a 449-foot homer and exit velocity of 107.6 miles per hour, according to Statcast, Abreu now leads the AL with 11 homers and 28 RBIs. In addition, he has six home runs in the series against the Chicago North team, after hitting two on Friday and three on Saturday, which is now the most by a Papalides player in any series in franchise history.
“That is simply the result of hard work every day,” Abreu said after the game. “I am never satisfied with what I do. I always think that I can do better. I can do more. That’s why I work hard ”.
“It definitely feels good to do something like that. But I would have preferred to have won today. We battle. We did the best we could, we just fell short. It was a good game. I’m happy for what I did, but it’s a bit bittersweet because we didn’t win. “
Abreu also tied the Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter for the most in a series against the Cubs.
“I did not change my approach, nor my plan,” Abreu clarified. “I took those shifts with the same mindset and the same plan, because I know what I have to do to get results. Those home runs didn’t affect my plan, nor my mind.
The MLB record for the most home runs in a three-game stretch is seven, set by Shawn Green with the Dodgers. Abreu is the sixth player in history to blow the fence in a span of three games, last seen June 1-4, 2003 by Jeff DaVanon. (GG) (Taken MB.com)
