The Spanish Antonio Adán, who defends the goal of Sporting de Portugal, was elected the best goalkeeper of the year in the Portuguese league championship.

Adán, who was proclaimed champion with Sporting, was the most voted by the coaches of the Portuguese first division, the Portuguese League reported this Saturday.

The 34-year-old Spaniard won the award after a season in which he played 32 league games, 19 of which ended with a clean sheet.

Adan was “very happy to be chosen goalkeeper of the year” and stressed that it is “a consequence of the excellent season” that Sporting had, which was proclaimed champion for the first time since 2002.

The Madrilenian made his debut for Real Madrid C in the 2004 and 2005 season, in which he remained for two seasons as a starting goalkeeper, before moving on to the first team.

During José Mourinho’s stage, he wore number 13 in the merengue team, a team in which he would debut in an official match of the Champions League and in which he was gaining the trust of the Portuguese coach, who in 2012 preferred it over Iker Casillas in several matches of the Spanish League.

In 2013 he announced his signing with Cagliari, from the Italian Serie A, where he stayed for a season before joining Real Betis, with whom he was until 2017, at which point his signing for Atlético de Madrid became official.
