The Spanish rider Álex Márquez, who a week ago underwent an operation to repair a fractured left wrist, has been declared fit to train next week in the IRTA Moto2 tests at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, reports his team, Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS.
Márquez had surgery just a week ago, the day after suffering a fall when he was training precisely in Jerez. He suffered a fracture in the body of the pyramidal bone, one of the small carpal bones in the left wrist.
The former Moto3 world champion was operated on last Sunday at the Quirón Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona and a titanium screw was implanted, with minimally invasive surgical techniques that reduce recovery time, to stabilize the fracture.
Since the intervention, which was carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir, Márquez has followed an intense recovery program to be able to get back on the bike next week in the first official Moto2 test for the new season.
“The surgery to stabilize the fracture in the wrist took place only a week ago, so I will arrive in Jerez without being 100% recovered, but still fit enough to be able to train and test new suspensions and different settings on the bike” , explains the pilot in a press release from the team.
“I’m sure the injury will be a handicap, so I’ll have to adapt to the bike, but I think I’ll be well enough to be able to do a good job throughout the three days in Jerez,” adds Márquez.
According to Michael Bartholemy. team boss, “Alex’s recovery after being injured and undergoing surgery has been much faster than we might expect, and this is due to the combination of his physical preparation and the minimally invasive techniques used.”
“It is obvious that after being operated on only seven days ago he will not be completely fit, but he will be recovered enough not to have to suffer too much from the injury on the bike. Even so, we will closely monitor his condition during the three days in Jerez and we will not hesitate to stop if we see that training brings more risks than benefits, “adds Bartholemy. EFE
