Alonso: “McLaren-Honda should focus on the 2016 car”

The Spanish Fernando Alonso, official McLaren driver, believes that the British Formula One team should already focus on the car for the 2016 World Championship because, in his opinion, “it is the smartest option, in view of the current situation.” .

“In the position we are in and with the performance we have, I believe that concentrating on next year is the smartest option for us,” says Alonso in statements collected by autosport.

Alonso is willing “to go out in all races from the pit lane if that can help develop the car.”

“That is the priority now, to focus on next year’s car. We will see what the team can offer. I think the progress has been quite good so far, hence the second part of the season is a question mark for us, but we are very optimistic, “he said.

Alonso and his teammate, Britain’s Jenson Button, face the Austrian GP this week after failing to finish either of them in the race in Canada on June 7.

Button understands, on the contrary, that the team should not completely abandon this season to focus on the 2016 car.

“We are here to develop the car, to make it faster and to do the best job possible in racing. Obviously, next year is going to be more exciting and I hope we can be at the top, but to achieve development we have to keep pushing, see what can be done in each race so that evolution goes in the right direction, “said Button. .
