Alonso: “The Baku European Grand Prix will be a pretty fast race”

Spanish Formula One driver Fernando Alonso (McLaren Honda) said on Tuesday that the European Grand Prix, to be held in Baku from June 17 to 19, will be a “fairly quick race.”
I’ve inspected the circuit. It will be a fairly fast race, “said Alonso at a press conference, who arrived today in the Azerbaijani capital as the official ambassador of the European Grand Prix.
The Spanish driver has won the European Grand Prix three times, a competition that this season returns to the Formula One calendar on the urban layout of Baku, which for the first time will host a competition in the premier category of motorsport.
The street circuit has a length of 6,006 meters, 20 curves and runs through the most emblematic places of the city.
“For me it is a great pleasure to be in Baku and emotionally it is very important to be an ambassador for Formula One in Baku. The best drivers will compete here and we will have a lot of excitement. The layout is very interesting, with tight curves, “said Alonso.
He added that the difficulty of the Baku circuit is that “the pilot must first adapt the machine to him and then think about speed.”
“The tightest curves will be the complex ones for us. They are located within the fortress walls (in the old part of the city) and it will be interesting to overcome them, ”he admitted.
At the same time, he stressed that speed is the essential part of the excitement of a race and considered that at the Baku circuit racing cars will be able to develop up to 340 kilometers per hour.
The last European Grand Prix was held in 2012 in Valencia, where Alonso, then a Ferrari driver, was victorious.
The Spanish pilot was satisfied with the state of the infrastructures and hotels in the Azerbaijani capital, where he will remain until tomorrow Wednesday. EFE
