Alonso, Vandoorne and Gasly penalized on the starting grid for the Mexican GP

The two McLaren-Honda drivers, the Spanish Fernando Alonso and the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne, received this Friday 20 and 35 penalty points respectively on the starting grid of the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, which takes place on Sunday at the Autodromo Rodríguez brothers.

The team was forced to change mechanical elements in the two cars beyond the authorized limit.

Vandoorne replaced all the elements of its propellant block, while Alonso, who uses a new version of Honda’s power pack this weekend, installed a ninth internal combustion engine, its eleventh turbo and eleventh electric motor that recovers the energy created by exhaust heat (MGU-H).
