Álvarez will allow Stevenson a voluntary defense

Colombian Eleider Álvarez, mandatory challenger and world leader in light heavyweight of the World Boxing Council (WBC), will allow Canadian Adonis Stevenson, division champion, a voluntary defense before a possible confrontation between the two.
The organization based in Mexico City reported that it received a statement from Álvarez, a mandatory challenger, in which he reported that he had reached a “step aside” agreement to allow Stevenson to defend himself voluntarily.
Álvarez, silver champion in the category also by the WBC, “has decided to step aside from his privilege to allow Stevenson a voluntary defense” of the title.
The letter noted that Stevenson and his next opponent, whose name is not yet known, will “confirm in writing” their commitment to defend the light heavyweight title against Alvarez in their next fight.
Álvarez was born in Apartadó, Colombia, 32 years ago and boasts an undefeated march in 22 fights, 11 on the fast track.
