Toni Nadal, Rafa Nadal’s uncle and former coach, will direct the Mallorca Open for the third consecutive year.

“This tournament has been consolidated every year and although the presence of the public is not as much as we would like, we are convinced that this year will be better than ever,” explained Toni Nadal.

“The confirmation that Angelique Kerber is coming to play this tournament shows the importance of it because the German is the current Wimbledon champion and chooses Mallorca to prepare for the defense of her title,” he added.

Anabel Medina, captain of the national team, highlighted, for her part, “the importance of a tournament of this level in Spanish territory.”

“The players have the unique opportunity to play at home and prepare in the best way for Wimbledon, the most important event in the tennis world. In addition, this tournament is very important to have at home because young players are also given the opportunity to play a high-level professional tournament, it would be very difficult if it were played outside our borders, said Medina.

The promoter of the tournament, Edwin Weindorfer, has specified that the Mallorca Open “continues to grow.”

«The idea is to have this tournament here in Mallorca for many years. I want to thank our sponsors and the authorities for their support and I would like in a special way to thank Wimbledon for believing in Mallorca and giving all the support to this very important tournament for the best possible preparation for the most important tournament in the world ”, Weindorfer stressed.
