Atlético de Madrid announced the signing of Valencia’s French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia for the remainder of the season and three more.
Atlético “has reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of the midfielder, who will play for our club for the remainder of the course and another three seasons,” the rojiblanco club said in a statement.
Atlético does not specify the amount of the operation, but, according to the Spanish press, it would be around 15 million euros (17.5 million dollars).
Kondogbia comes to replace the exit in the last transfer window of the Ghanaian Thomas Partey to the English Arsenal in the mattress midfield.
The ‘Gunners’ paid the player’s termination clause of 50 million euros (58.9 million dollars) on the last market day, so, according to Spanish regulations, Atlético had one more month to sign a player who was in LaLiga.
Although there was speculation about the possibility that Kondogbia would return on loan, finally the transfer has been made in the form of a transfer and the French player thus disassociates himself from the team he joined in 2017 from Inter Milan, first on loan.
The Frenchman had not played for Valencia in the last two games due to physical discomfort and had been very critical of the club’s president, Anil Murthy. AFP (hn).
