Bayern and Leverkusen play for the lead in Germany

Bayern Munich visit Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, in the key duel of the eighth German day in which the leadership of the Bundesliga will be at stake, with the two teams at the top of the table and tied on points.

Bayern, who are leaders by best goal difference, come from conceding their first defeat of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.

That defeat, however, does not seem to worry the coach Julian Nagelsmann too much, who assured: “The game was not very different from the others we have played, only that some problems that we already had were punished.”

Nagelsmann considers that the main aspect in which his team must improve is in the reaction against counter-attacks from the opponent. Statistics show that a step has already been taken in that direction.

Bayern are not only conceding fewer goals than last season, but they have also managed to make their opponents weave fewer counterattacks as they often still manage to drown them in the opposite half.

However, Leverkusen is a tough challenge, probably the fittest team Bayern has faced as a rival this season.

Bayern will not be able to count on the French Benjamin Pavard, who is suspended.

The two teams can come into the game having been provisionally stripped of first and second position as Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg are just one point behind.

Dortmund host Mainz on Saturday, in a match in which Erling Haaland could reappear after a muscle injury.
