The lawyers of former baseball player David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz, a Major League Baseball legend, clarified that the complaint made against him by an ex-partner refers to “psychological violence” and not to physical assault.
The ex-partner of Dominican baseball player Fary Almánzar, who has a son with Ortiz, denounced him on May 21 and, consequently, a court in the Dominican Republic imposed a restraining order, according to the Prosecutor’s Office this Thursday.
“It is not a physical attack (…), what the lady points out is psychological violence,” said the lawyer Lucy Objío, a partner of the firm to Pellerano & Herrera, at a press conference this Friday.
The lawyer explained that Ortiz has not seen Fary Almánzar for a year and in that time they have only had telephone conversations, in which they have discussed real estate.
According to the lawyers’ version, the former player asked his ex-partner in a “friendly” way to vacate several properties owned by an Ortiz company and asked him to move into a luxury apartment bought by the former player for Almánzar and his son in an exclusive sector of Santo Domingo.
The lawyer attributed the complaint filed by the woman to this real estate dispute and suggested that the matter was leaked to the press with the aim of “exerting media pressure and obtaining economic advantages.”
Likewise, the lawyer stressed that Ortiz is a “champion of the fight against women” and has made himself available to the Dominican Justice, for which he has traveled to the country, despite the fact that the borders are closed due to the pandemic.
Almánzar accused Ortiz of violating the Intrafamily Violence Law and the Gender Violence Unit of the National District issued a provisional protection order that prevents the Dominican ex-pelotero, based in the United States, from approaching, harassing or intimidating the woman. EFE (HN)
