After a long search, the Toronto Blue Jays have already found a home. The team will play the 2020 season at Sahlen Field, its Triple-A Minor League affiliate stadium in Buffalo, New York.
The team had previously negotiated with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, but city health authorities denied permission after reporting a significant increase in Coronavirus cases in the city.
They had also been negotiating with the Baltimore Orioles, but achieved nothing, but Maryland officials would not allow the Blue Jays to play in the city.
After all the searching, the Blue Jays will be at your house.
Sahlen Field will need a number of upgrades to host the Blue Jays’ Major League Baseball games. The lighting will have to be changed, for example, to meet MLB standards, as well as some structures to comply with the League’s Covid-19 protocol.
Sadly, the stadium won’t be ready for the Blue Jays’ first home series, scheduled for July 29-30 against the Washington Nationals. The series will have to be played at Nationals Park.
Last week, the Canadian government denied the Blue Jays a permit to play at the Roger Center, as due to the Coronavirus pandemic, MLB needed an exemption to the requirement that anyone entering Canada for non-essential reasons must self-isolate during 14 days. (GG)(Taken from The Fielding)
