Boca Juniors had to suffer but qualified for the semifinals of the Argentine Cup by defeating Patronato 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time in a match played on Wednesday in Santiago del Estero (north).
In a harsh and very stuck game, it was difficult for Boca to impose conditions before a fierce Patronage that planted a battle in every portion of the field.
Boca, which had the Colombians Frank Fabra, Jorman Campuzano and Edwin Cardona, and the Peruvian Luis Advíncula as starters, searched patiently first and nervously about the end, but only recently managed to defeat Patronato on penalties and will be measured in the semifinals with the winner of the series between Argentinos Juniors and San Telmo (second division).
The Argentine Cup, which Boca won three times, is the great ‘xeneize’ objective in the remainder of the year, since it would give him the direct ticket to the Copa Libertadores-2022, for which he is not yet classified.
In the definition from eleven meters, Marcos Rojo, Carlos Izquierdoz, Aaron Molinas and Cristian Pavón scored for Boca, while only Matías Palavecino and goalkeeper Matías Ibáñez scored for the Board.
Agustín Rossi, Boca’s goalkeeper, stopped Leandro Marín’s shot, and Uruguayan Sebastián Sosa Sánchez’s shot crashed into the crossbar.
Previously, in the match that completed the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup, Godoy Cruz beat Racing on penalties (5-4), after an emotional match that ended 3-3 in the ninety minutes. In the quarterfinals, Godoy Cruz will face Tigre, from the second division. (AFP)
