Boston disqualifies Kike Hernández due to Covid

Kiké Hernández, an infielder for the Boston Red Sox, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be inactive indefinitely.

Puerto Rican manager Alex Cora said his countryman Hernández experiences some symptoms of the condition. He will be included in the COVID-19 list along with the intermediary Christian Arroyo, who was in close contact with him.

“They will be out for an extended period,” Cora warned Friday, before the Red Sox, locked in contention for playoff tickets, began a three-game series against the Indians.

Cora did not reveal if Hernández is vaccinated.

The pilot said that two infielder players, Yairo Muñoz of the Dominican Republic and Jonathan Araúz of Panama, would be called up from Triple A. The Red Sox were confident that both would arrive in time to be available on Friday night. (MLB in Spanish)
