Brazil today remembered the three-time Formula 1 champion, Ayrton Senna, when it was 22 years since he died in a tragic accident at the Imola circuit (Italy).
That May 1, 1994, the Brazilians mourned the death of one of their greatest idols, who was preparing for a corner on the seventh lap of the San Marino Grand Prix when he crashed his car into a wall at more than 300 kilometers per hour.
The impact, as strong as it was, did not fracture her bones, but did give Senna a fatal blow to the head that ended her life at 34 years of age.
According to official data, the Brazilian driver died in hospital about four hours after the impact and the causes of the accident in which he lost control of his car are still unclear.
On the very day of his death, he planned to pay tribute to Roland Ratzenberger, who died the day before him in Imola, with an Austrian flag that the race commissioners found in his car minutes after the accident.
Senna, who became a legend, was a source of inspiration for many Formula One drivers.
Several of them have remembered his legacy today and paid tribute to him, such as the Brazilian Felipe Nasr, who on the same day of the Sochi Grand Prix (Russia) published an image on social networks to remember the motorsport legend.
The Sauber driver honored his late compatriot with his helmet. On it he placed the name of Ayrton Senna and a sticker with his image that reads: “Ayrton Senna always.”
«It is an honor to be able to carry out a tribute exactly today. The myth continues, Ayrton’s name continues as an example, “Nasr said on social media.
Despite Senna’s death, his feat is still latent in Brazil: 41 grand prix victories and 65 first places on the starting grid still keep him alive in the hearts of motorsport fans. EFE
