Formula One team Renault announced on Monday that it has signed Canadian Nicholas Latifi as the new starting test driver for the 2016 season, during which he will also compete in the GP2 Series.
Nicholas Latifi, 20, has signed a “long-term” contract and will participate in at least one free session on Fridays when he is super-licensed.
The Canadian will combine his work at Renault with the GP2 championship, in which he will participate with the DAMS team, the same one with which British Jolyon Palmer, current F1 team driver, won that competition in 2014.
Latifi has competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 and in the European Formula 3, competitions in which he achieved several podiums.
Frédéric Vasseur, Director of Renault Sport, describes Latifi as “a rapidly developing young talent who has competed in several championships throughout his short career.” EFE
