Carmelo Anthony rises to 14th place in NBA all-time scorers

Carmelo Anthony is since last night the 14th player who has scored the most points in NBA history. The 36-year-old forward scored 18 points in the Portland Trail Blazers’ visit to Golden State, where they won 98-123, for a total of 26,499 points points to beat Tim Duncan, who accumulated 26,496 in his career.

To advance the list of top scorers in NBA history, Melo completed what is his best game so far this season by going up to 5 of 9 in shooting from the field, including 3 of 4 in triples, and Hitting it right from the personnel line with a 5 out of 5.

Anthony’s strong performance helped the Blazers comfortably beat the Warriors on what was a historic double night. If Melo became the 14th with the most points in history, his teammate Damian Lillard surpassed the 15,000 barrier with the Oregon franchise jersey, something that previously only Clyde Drexler had been able to do. The All-Star point guard finished the night with 34 points thanks to 11 of 21 in shooting from the field and 6 of 6 in free throws.

Seeing Carmelo moving up the ranks in the near future would not be a surprise. The 10-time All-Star is just 170 points behind Dominique Wilkins (13th with 26,668 total), 212 from Oscar Robertson (12th with 26,710 total) and 448 from Hakeem Olajuwon (11th with 26,946). Given that last season the Blazers player made a total of 895 points playing 58 games, it would be strange if he did not surpass all those named. Tighter will be the one who hunts the next, Elvin Hayes with 27,313 points. (GG) (NBA Maniacs)
