Celtics lose Jaylen Brown to injury for remainder of season

All-Star guard Jaylen Brown, a Boston Celtics figure, will be out for the rest of the NBA season with a wrist injury that will require surgery, the franchise reported Monday.

Brown, 24, was diagnosed last weekend with a torn scapholunate ligament in his left wrist and will undergo surgery later this week, the Celtics said in a brief report.

The team did not detail the period of absence planned for the player but advanced that “he will be out for the rest of the 2020-2021 season.”

Brown’s injury is a severe blow to the Celtics’ aspirations in a season that was already proving frustrating due to the numerous injuries and COVID-19 infections on their squad, including their other figures Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker.

Boston currently occupies the seventh position in the Eastern conference and is heading to play the ‘play in’ (repechage) to try to qualify for the playoffs.

Jaylen Brown was playing the best season of his career, being the team’s second leading scorer with 24.7 points per game and playing the All-Star Game for the first time in February. (AFP) (GG)
