The Olympic Champion of boxing Julio César La Cruz leads the trio of fighters from the Domadores de Cuba team that will participate in the promotional match of the IX World Series of Boxing, based in Moscow on December 9, reported this Friday the National Commission for discipline on the island.
Along with the light heavyweight La Cruz, captain of the Tamers, will take part the titular cruiser of the world, Erislandy Savón, and the medium Osley Iglesias, said commissioner Alberto Puig, quoted by local sports media.
The three Cuban boxers will be part of a multinational cast that will face the Patriotas of Russia team in a duel adjusted to the eight divisions approved for the World Series in 52, 57, 63, 69, 75, 81, 91 and +91 kilograms.
“This is the event that will serve as the modeling and launch of the next season,” said the Cuban commissioner.
The Domadores de Cuba team was crowned for the third time in the World Series of Boxing (WSB, for its acronym in English) in the grand final of its VIII edition held last September in China, in which it beat the Astana Arlans squad of Kazakhstan, winner of the 2017 championship.
The manager of the boxing Cuban also confirmed that after the Moscow meeting, La Cruz, Savón and Iglesias will participate in the Playa Girón national tournament that will be held from December 15 to 20 in the eastern city of Camagüey.
In that local tournament, La Cruz is expected to get his crown number 10, Savón, the sixth, and Iglesias, the first. EFE
