Chelsea regains the lead

Chelsea regained the leadership of the Premier League with a narrow victory (0-1) against a Brentford who deserved more and who was met with two clubs and an unshakable Edouard Mendy.

The ‘Blues’ keep the pulse and were not intimidated by the victories of Manchester City and Liverpool, which put pressure on them and forced them to win to end the day at the top of the table.

Although it was not their most brilliant game, they did it thanks to a goal from Ben Chilwell on the brink of halftime. The full-back took advantage of the attention that Romelu Lukaku attracts inside the area to hook a shot from the front impossible for a David Raya who was impeccable.

Earlier, Brentford had a chance to take the lead, with a shot off the post by Mbeumo, while Chelsea saw Lukaku’s goal disallowed for offside.

In the second half, Chelsea was able to sentence, but the Belgian forward, who has been six games without seeing the door with the ‘Blues’, missed the clearest and that opened the possibilities of a Brentford that could get something positive from his stadium. Mbeumo found himself again with the stick and Mendy made a save to Ivan Toney which was 1-1.

The Senegalese still had rope left and he became the figure with three point-blank stops, one to Pontus Jansson, another to Saman Ghoddos and the third, in discount, to a Chilean by Christian Norgaard, who sealed the victory for Thomas’ men Tuchel.
