Giorgio Chiellini, defending European champion with the Italian national team and currently without a club after the expiration of his contract with Juventus, will sign a new agreement with the Turin team in the coming days, club president Andrea Agnelli reported on Tuesday.
“I read that Chiellini would be offended because no one has contacted him (to sign a new contract). I spoke to him last Monday, he has been playing with us for twenty years. It seemed ridiculous to me that he interrupted the holidays to sign a contract, “said Agnelli during the press conference introducing Massimiliano Allegri as new coach.
“It is not a problem,” stressed the Juventus president.
Chiellini, captain of the Turin squad and the Italian national team, is expected to join the squad next week after enjoying a few days of post-Euro vacation.
The 36-year-old Italian defender has played for Juventus since 2005 and played 535 games, winning nine league titles, five Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups. EFE (HN)
