Chilena Rodríguez retains world bantamweight title against Colombian Cordero

Chilean Carolina “Crespita” Rodríguez today retained the world bantamweight crown of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) after defeating Colombian Dayana “Diamante” Cordero in a split decision.
More than 5,000 people filled the stands of the Sports Center of the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile, where they witnessed a close confrontation between the two fighters, who did not manage to clearly dominate their rival at any point in the fight.
In favor of the defending champion was her more offensive attitude, always taking the initiative over the young Colombian challenger, only 18 years old but taller and sturdier than the Chilean, despite which she tried at all times to fight the counter.
After the ten rounds, the judges’ cards favored the Chilean with scores of 99-91, 95-98 and 96-95, a result that unleashed the euphoria of the public present in the coliseum.
“I was too tense, it was not my best fight,” declared “Crespita” Rodríguez after the fight.
“I am happy to have retained the title, but I was too tense. My nerves betrayed me. The rival did not surprise me, she was the protagonist. A slightly bitter taste remains. Today I was not the «Crespa». I hope the fight that comes after is much better, “he said.
The Chilean increased her personal record to thirteen victories and none defeats her personal record with her victory today and will be able to continue exhibiting her two world champion belts in the same category, as she also has, since last year, the bantamweight title of the International Boxing Association Female (WIBA).
