The central defender Dávinson Sánchez will return to England to rejoin his club Tottenham, according to a previous agreement, and will be out of Colombia against Chile on Thursday for the World Cup qualifiers.
Sánchez, head of Reinaldo Rueda’s team, also received a yellow card in injury time in the match that Colombia drew 1-1 on Sunday night against local Paraguay.
Tottenham provided it for the games against Bolivia and Paraguay on the condition that he return after this commitment to quarantine himself.
Carlos Cuesta (KRC of Belgium) and William Tesillo (León of Mexico), who lined up as a left back against Bolivia and Paraguay, are candidates to relieve Sánchez.
Óscar Murillo (Pachuca de México) is the other central defender and Stefan Medina (Atlético Nacional) is the right back.
The Colombian team was scheduled to leave Asunción early Monday, but the flight had a delay, the Colombian Federation announced.
Colombia occupies the fifth box with 10 points. Chile marches in eighth place with seven, one behind Paraguay and Peru.
The top four from South America go directly to the World Cup in Qatar next year. The fifth will play an intercontinental playoff.
The match will be played at the Roberto Meléndez stadium in Barranquilla, in the Caribbean.
The presence of 23,500 fans was authorized, 50% of the stage capacity, confirmed the Federation and the city hall. (AP)
