For the Italian Antonio Conte, Tottenham’s brand new coach on Tuesday, being at the helm of the London club is an “honor” and he hopes to restore the confidence that its owner, Daniel Levy, has given him.
“It is a great pleasure, a great honor to be Tottenham’s manager. It is a great opportunity to return to England to a club where there are excellent players, “Conte told the English entity’s television network.
Conte returns to a city he knows well after coaching Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, with which he lifted the Premier League trophy in 2017.
“The club and Daniel Levy really loved me and it was an honor to accept it. Now, I’m sure I want to return that confidence, “the coach stressed.
The former Italy coach between 2014 and 2016 replaces Portugal’s Nuno Espiritu Santos, sacked after losing 3-0 at home to Manchester United on Saturday.
Conte, 52, also led Inter Milan to their first Serie A title since winning the last championship in 2010 last season, ending Juventus’ hegemony after winning it for nine consecutive years.
“I come to a great club whose stadium and training center are fantastic. I will work to bring Tottenham to the same level as the field, “promised Conte.
“This type of situation pushes you and reinforces your desire to work and do something important for the fans,” insisted the Italian.
Conte will make his new team debut on Thursday, currently ninth in the Premier League, against Dutch Vitesse Arnhem on matchday four of the Europa Leage. (AFP)
