Cuba will play in the first round of the IV World Baseball Classic 2017

The Cuban baseball team will play in the first round of the IV World Baseball Classic 2017 that will open at the Tokyo Dome stadium in Japan, the island’s sports media reported today.

“We are pleased to be in the first round in Japan, a team is preparing for a worthy performance,” said Cuba’s national baseball director, Heriberto Suárez, quoted by the digital site “Jit”, a publication of the National Sports Institute (Inder) of the Caribbean country.

The director explained that the preparation of the Cuban team began two months ago, and in that process they participated in the Can-Am League (Canadian American) and last week they faced the United States national university team in a friendly match held on the island. .

The Cuban baseball players, runners-up in the first edition of the Clásico and fifth in the next two, were included in the qualifying group that will be seated at the Tokyo Dome stadium, where they will be, in addition to the Japanese team, those from China and Australia.

The World Baseball Classic (WBC) is considered the highest quality baseball championship in the world, because the best professional, semi-professional and amateur players from the most important leagues from all over the planet participate.

Cuba had an outstanding performance in the first edition of the WBC, in the second version it did not manage to pass the semifinals and in the third contest in 2013 the island’s team was eliminated in the second round.EFE
