Cuban Alonso and Adams formalize their contracts in the Major Leagues

Cuban first baseman Yonder Alonso and American Matt Adams signed their respective contracts in Major League Baseball with the Cleveland Indians and the Washington Nationals, respectively.

The Antillean first baseman recorded his signature with the ‘Tribe’ for two years and 16 million dollars. The Cuban slugger’s contract includes a team option for $ 9 million for the 2020 season.

The 30-year-old player passed the rigorous medical exams on Friday to make the signing official.

The Indians hired Alonso to replace Carlos Santana, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for three years and $ 60 million.

Alonso hit .266 with 28 homers and 67 RBIs last season with the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.

On the other hand, the Nationals signed a contractual agreement with fellow first baseman and outfielder Matt Adams.

The pact is for one year and four million dollars, so that the tough slugger is the club’s first base in the 2018 campaign.

The 29-year-old Adams hit .274 last season, hitting a career-best 20 homers and 65 RBIs for the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves.

In his lifetime, Adams is hitting .271 in six seasons in the majors.
