Cuban Argilagos will defend title in 49 kgs, bronze for Colombian Martínez

The Cuban Johanys Argilados won this Thursday the right to defend his crown as world champion of boxing in the lower division, 46-49 kilos, when exhibiting with superiority in his semifinal against the Kazakh Zhomart Yerhan in the World Cups that take place in Hamburg (Germany).

Unanimously by the judges, Argilagos imposed his status as first seed and did not result in Yerhan signing another surprise, as he did in the quarterfinals when he defeated Russian Vasilii Egorov, double European champion and world runner-up two years ago.

The last obstacle for Argilagos towards the gold will be the Uzbek Hasanboy Dusmatov, Olympic champion, who in a repetition of the final lived just over a year ago in Rio de Janeiro beat the Colombian Yurberjen Martínez, also unanimously.

Three judges scored 30-27 in favor of Dusmatov and two others adjusted their marks to 29-28.

Saturday’s final will put the world and Olympic champions face to face. The two losers of the semifinals take bronze.
