Cuban José Abreu tests positive for COVID-19

José Abreu, the reigning AL MVP, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will have to stay away from the Chicago White Sox for at least the next few days.
General manager Rick Hahn said in a statement Wednesday that the Cuban slugger is “completely asymptomatic.”

Hahn said the test also showed the presence of COVID antibodies and that Abre believes he was suffering from a mild case of the virus in January.

“Apart from being frustrated, José feels good and, like the rest of us, is looking forward to rejoining the club in the near future,” Hahn said.

Abreu was instrumental in the White Sox reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
