Czech Tomas Berdych, former world number 4 and currently ranked 100 in the ATP, announced that he will not compete at Roland Garros, which begins on Sunday, “as he is not 100% ready to play.”
“I came to Paris to test myself and I had to make a difficult decision: I have yet to wait several days to fully recover and be ready for the grass season,” Berdych wrote on Twitter, along with a photograph of the center court at Roland Garros , in Paris.
“I have to make sure not to injure myself again,” added the Czech, who has been regularly injured in the back in recent months and who for this reason had given up the preparatory clay court tournaments for the Paris event.
At 33, Berdych has not played a game since February.
His best result at Roland Garros was the 2010 semi-final. AFP
