Djokovic threatens Nadal’s reign

The Serbian Novak Djokovic, the Swiss Roger Federer and the British Andy Murray will threaten the reign of the Spanish Rafa Nadal, champion the last two editions, in the Madrid tennis tournament, since his presence in the capital of Spain in a month has been confirmed this Tuesday by the ATP.

The 45 best players in the world ranking will join the seven from the preliminary phase and the four invited by the organization of the tournament, in the Masters 1,000 category, to complete the main draw of 56 tennis players.

Among the favorites will be Novak Djokovic, current number one and champion in 2011; Roger Federer, winner of the tournament in 2006, 2009 and 2012; Andy Murray, who won the trophy in 2008; and local idol Rafa Nadal, defending champion.

Between May 1 and 10, David Ferrer, Feliciano López, Roberto Bautista, Feliciano López and Fernando Verdasco, Rafa Nadal’s executioner in the third round of the Miami tournament, are also expected to play a relevant role.

The top eight seeded teams will be exempt from the first round, according to the organization of the tournament, which will be played on clay at the Caja Mágica sports venue. EFE
