Djokovic will not play any grass court tournaments before Wimbledon

World tennis No. 1 Novak Djokovic announced in Belgrade that he would not participate in any grass-court tournaments before Wimbledon, which he has won four times.

“Due to the long clay court season, this year I have decided to forgo (grass tournaments) and concentrate on Wimbledon,” said the Serb after training in his hometown.

Still, ‘Nole’ will play some exhibition matches on grass before the London Grand Slam, he said.

“I will need time to adapt (to the grass) and I am happy to have the possibility to play at least two exhibition matches of two or three sets each that will allow me to test certain technical and tactical aspects of my game,” he said.

The Serbian applauded the return to the slopes of one of his great rivals on this surface, the British Andy Murray, who will participate in the Queen’s doubles tournament, a preparatory competition for Wimbledon.

“This is excellent news, he is a longtime rival and friend with whom I have grown since I was 12 years old. We played our first game at 11 or 12 years old, so I am happy that he is back on the slopes, “said Djokovic.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner, will return to doubles competition, for the first time since his hip surgery earlier this year, with Spaniard Feliciano López at Queen’s, London.
