Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers set a National League record for the most home runs in a month. Now they are looking for the mark for the most series won to start a major league season since 1969.
Bellinger’s two-run hit gave the Dodgers 57 home runs in August, following solo homers by Corey Seager and Will Smith, and Los Angeles defeated the Texas Rangers 7-2 on Sunday.
Bellinger’s 10th home run of the season was enough for the Dodgers to break the previous 56 home run mark, set by Atlanta in June 2019. The record came in the third inning of the Dodgers’ last game in August.
The Dodgers, who have the best record in the majors, rallied after losing the first game of the series to defeat the Rangers in back-to-back games. They have won 12 series in a row to start the season, the fifth longest string since 1969.
The 1990 Cincinnati Reds hold the record with 17 series won in a row to start a season. Los Angeles are among the three teams in second place with 14, when they pulled it off in 1977 to level with the 1970 Twins and 1997 Orioles.) (From LNP, Lancaser On line)
