F1 reaches preliminary agreement for a GP in Miami

Formula One reached a preliminary agreement to hold a race in Miami in the 2021 season, which would give the global series a second Grand Prix in the United States.

Despite an initial effort to stage the race in the streets of downtown Miami, which would have provided views of the sea, the Miami GP will be held on a circuit in the parking lots of Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dolphins.

F1 reported Thursday that the plan is to hold the race in May. The deal requires the approval of Miami-Dade municipal authorities on October 28.

The Miami race would be added to the United States GP in Austin, Texas, bringing the number in North America to four, along with those in Mexico and Montreal.
