Roger Federer, number 2 of the ATP, will not play this week in the Paris-Bercy Tournament, paving the way for Rafael Nadal, leader of the world ranking according to the published list, to end the year at the top of the podium.
The Spanish only need to overcome the first round in the French Masters 1000 to secure the world number 1 of the 2017 season.
Scotsman Andy Murray once again accompanies the two legends on the third step of the podium. His season has already ended due to physical problems, the same case for Serbian Novak Djokovic (N.7) and Swiss Stan Wawrinka (N.9).
The only change in the Top-10 is that the German Alexander Zverev regains a place and is back in fourth place to the detriment of the Croatian Marin Cilic, now fifth.
Federer announced his withdrawal from Paris-Bercy on Sunday, after winning the Tournament in Basel, his hometown, for the eighth time, beating Argentine Juan Martín Del Potro in the final; 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 and 6-3.
With his remarkable performance Del Potro gains two positions and is now 17th on the list, being the best ranked South American.
