Although he has not yet announced his plans for the clay court season, Roger Federer of Switzerland has indicated in Indian Wells (California) that he would love to play against Rafael Nadal of Spain on clay.
“Whether or not he plays on clay (this season) does not depend on the presence or absence of Rafa (Nadal) and Novak (Djokovic), Federer pointed out after beating Serbian Filip Krajinovic in 58 minutes (6-2 and 6 -1) and reach the knockout stages of the Californian tournament, the first Masters 1,000 of the season.
“But I would love to play against Rafa on clay, to the best of five sets. I’d like to see what happens now. But there is no guarantee that he will be luckier today than in the past, “admitted the Swiss, who did not advance his plans.
“It depends on what I want to do, how to avoid injury, what my head tells me to do,” said the current world number one, who must reach the semi-finals at Indian Wells to maintain his position.
I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it. I don’t know to what extent my progress will help me against Rafa on earth. He is still the one who moves best on this surface. I do not know if I move better than before on earth, I have not played for a long time, “he said.
“I still think he is the best player on earth,” he reiterated about Nadal, and “that he will always be the best player in history on earth.” EFE.
