The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has accepted Porsche’s application as a manufacturer of the Formula E championship on Tuesday, which means that it can continue with the development of its own electronic powertrain, which will be homologated in 2019, reports the German brand.
Porsche is scheduled to participate in the sixth season of this international championship for electric cars, which begins at the end of 2019.
Fritz Enzinger, Porsche Vice President and Head of the Formula E Program, said that “over the past few years, the FIA and Alejandro Agag have done a fantastic job.”
“Thanks to this evolution that they have had, we will be able to compete on the track against many of the world’s great automakers,” Enzinger added.
Andreas Seidl, who will be responsible for technical development and the execution of the Formula E program, was impatient to receive his first vehicle in early 2019.
Porsche’s entry into Formula E will coincide with the launch of the serial production version of the Mission E prototype. This vehicle, the first fully electric Porsche, will be the most sporty and technologically advanced in its category. EFE
