FIFA and FIFPRO union want to help evacuate Afghan footballers

FIFA and the global players’ union, FIFPRO, are speaking to help evacuate soccer players from Afghanistan who wish to do so, Fatma Samura, secretary general of the soccer governing body, confirmed to AFP on Sunday.

“We are working with FIFPRO,” explained the FIFA leader, specifying that it was necessary to study “the number of players affected.”

Evacuating footballers from Afghanistan “We have done it in the past, we must be able to do it again,” added Samura.

The union had explained in a tweet on Friday that it was “collaborating with governments to establish an evacuation plan for athletes at risk”, seeking “to bring as many people as possible to a safe place.”
