FIFA will begin visits to choose the 16 cities that will host the 2026 World Cup next week and Mexico will be evaluated at the end of November, the final venues will be announced until 2022.
FIFA will begin the first round of visits in Boston, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington DC, Baltimore, New York / New Jersey, Philadelphia and Miami, to visit Mexico at the end of November, which is applying to the Azteca Stadium, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
The evaluation committee will be guided by Victor Montiaglani, president of Concacaf, and will be accompanied by Colin Smith, director of the FIFA tournaments and events division, as well as representatives from each city.
Mexico City, with the Azteca stadium, Guadalajara and Monterrey will not only be evaluated on the issue of the stadium, but the infrastructure of each site will also be reviewed, to see the viability of the nominated cities.
“It will include FIFA experts from multiple fields such as stadium management, stadium and city infrastructures, national team facilities, the commercial area, the bid selection process and the legal field,” reports the maximum organism of international soccer.
Mexico does not have its three venues insured for the 2026 World Cup, since the United States fights to have the most possible matches and one of the cities that had been nominated for Canada has already resigned from the World Cup.
“These visits are an essential step in choosing the best venues for the tournament in order to conclude this competitive selection process in the first or second quarter of 2022.”
The selection of host cities for 2026 was delayed due to the problems caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and it is expected that there will be no more unforeseen events in the process. (ESPNDEPDEPORTES)
