Ivan Jurcevic, a 44-year-old former kick boxing champion, has already been dubbed on social media as the ‘Cologne hero’ after he saved two women from harassment by men of Arab and North African origin who sexually assaulted and robbed about 500 women in the German city on New Years Eve, writes ‘The Daily Mail’. Ivan Jurcevic faced four attackers who had surrounded their victims.
The former Croatian-born athlete, who has won five kick boxing world championships, works as a goalkeeper in a five-star hotel located in the central square of the city of Cologne, where most of the sexual assaults took place.
That night two women approached him, begging him to protect them from a gang of men. “There were four men, young people in their 20s, who spoke Arabic,” he tells the British newspaper. “They told me not to interfere, since the girls were ‘theirs’,” says Jurcevic, who was able to cope with the attackers thanks to his sports training.
A thousand men “of Arab and North African origin” have been accused of sexually assaulting numerous women and throwing firecrackers at the crowd during New Year’s celebrations in the central square of the city of Cologne.
