Former Olympic champion Howard Davis dies of cancer

Former American boxer Howard Davis, Olympic lightweight champion in Montreal’76, has died at the age of 59 from lung cancer, family sources reported today.
Although the legendary Ray Leonard Michael Spinks or Teófilo Stevenson also competed there, Davis received the Val Barker trophy in Montreal’76 that distinguished the best boxer of the Games, in which he won the gold medal in lightweight, and for his boxing came to be compared to Mohamed Ali
As confirmed by his brother Kenny, Davis died last Wednesday after a short battle with cancer. “He was a very special man, husband and friend. I’m going to miss him a lot, “he commented.
Although he was never a smoker, last summer he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. “I have never wondered why me. God chose me to have this disease for a reason and I have to find out its purpose, “Davs told the New York Post last August.
Doctors gave him less than a year to live when they discovered the advanced stage of the disease.
