France’s Arsen Goulamirian retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion belt by defeating Australian Mark Flanagan, who threw in the towel in the ninth round in Marseille.
At 31, Arsen “Feroz” Goulamirian has 24 victories in as many fights (16 by KO). He had won his crown by defeating Belgian Ryad Merhy, by referee’s decision in the eleventh round, on March 24, at the Palais des Sports in Marseille.
“I dedicate the victory to Charles Aznavour, for Armenia”, launched the winner after the fight, in tribute to the French singer of Armenian origin, as the boxer.
Mark “Bambam” Flanagan, 28, the winner of 24 of his 30 fights (17 by KO), began to suffer from the fifth round, before falling twice in the ninth.
“Flanagan is a good opponent, he took the blows but was very tough in this fight,” concluded Goulamirian. AFP
