French league opposes the World Cup every two years

The Board of Directors of the French Professional Football League (LFP) voted this Wednesday against the World Cup being played every two years because it would harm the domestic championships.

“The development of football does not happen only through the World Cup, it rests above all on domestic championships,” said the LFP in a statement, in which it predicts “an irremediably negative impact” on them with the celebration of a World Cup every two years. .

The French clubs consider that this decision was taken by FIFA “without consultation” and only in their own interest.

The extension of the international periods “would significantly disturb the continuity of the domestic championships and would cause the disinterest of the fans,” they add. EFE (HN)
