The Spanish-Venezuelan Garbiñe Muguruza, fourth favorite, defeated the Chinese Ying-Ying Duan 6-3 and 6-4, in the second round of the Doha tournament, after an hour and a quarter of permanence on the track.
Muguruza, who returned to the courts after his defeat in the second round of the Australian Open, began by losing his serve in the first game of the first set and then signed up for the next four, and closed the sleeve by a clear 6-3 in 37 minutes .
The story of the second set was pretty much the same, with Duan earning the first point on his serve, and Muguruza scoring the next five games.
The Caracas woman relaxed too much and reached the ninth game in which she squandered up to five match points, and had to wait until the tenth game, already with her own service, to score the 6-4 victory on the eighth opportunity.
It was Conchita Martínez’s first match in Muguruza’s technical team. EFE
