Buenos Aires (EFE) .- The results of a genetic test carried out on the remains of the late Argentine motorist Juan Manuel Fangio confirmed that Rubén Vázquez is the son of the five-time Formula 1 champion, judicial sources reported today.
The 72-year-old man received the results of the analysis carried out on the remains of the legendary pilot, whose body was exhumed last August for tests.
“Juan Manuel Fangio is the father of our client Rubén Vázquez,” lawyer Miguel Ángel Pierri said today on his Facebook account.
“The Expert Office of the city of La Plata (Buenos Aires) notified that our client is 99.999 percent” son of the five-time world champion, as he added.
According to the official Télam agency, Vázquez’s suspicions about his affiliation with the motorist began a few years ago when, while he was working in a hotel in the Buenos Aires town of Cañuelas, tourists commented on his resemblance to Fangio.
Last December, the Argentine Justice had resolved another lawsuit for filiation, of Oscar Espinoza, a 77-year-old man.
Fangio, born in the Buenos Aires town of Balcarce in 1911, died in 1995, at the age of 84, without having married or having recognized children.
He was Formula One champion in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957 and runner-up in 1950 and 1953.
He held the Formula 1 title record until 2003, when he was surpassed by German Michael Schumacher. EFE
