Just 48 hours after being dismissed by Naples, Gennaro Gattuso has become the new coach of Fiorentina, a club he arrives at with the aim of returning Florence to the top positions in Serie A.
“Gennaro Gattuso will be the new coach of Fiorentina” as of July 1, announced the president Rocco Commisso on the official website of the Tuscan club.
He succeeds Giuseppe Iachini, hired by the entity in March to save the relegation (13th) after the surprise resignation of former Italian coach Cesare Prandelli.
Gattuso, 43, was sacked by Naples last Sunday after the team was out of the next Champions League, after drawing (1-1) on the last day of Serie A against Hellas Verona and the victory Juventus (4-1 at Bologna), which left the Neapolitans in 5th place.
The former AC Milan player had arrived at Naples in December 2019, replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
In June 2020 he achieved his first title as a coach by winning the Italian Cup. (GG) (AFP)
