Governor of Puerto Rico welcomes two-time champions of the Caribbean Baseball Series
The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, received today in La Fortaleza, headquarters of the executive, the team of the Criollos de Caguas of the island, who last week were crowned for the second year in a row in the Caribbean Baseball Series, becoming the third team in history to do so.

The Criollos of Puerto Rico, reinforced with members of the other clubs that participated in the Puerto Rican winter league (Cangrejeros, Indios y Gigantes), won the 2018 Caribbean Series championship after beating the Águilas Cibaeñas de la República 9-4 Dominicana at the Jalisco stadium in Guadalajara (Mexico).
In statements made at the event, the governor said that the motivation that led them to overcome the result and win the title “is the push that the people of Puerto Rico need.”
“We are proud,” said Rosselló, who added that “coming from three against and going forward and coming back is something spectacular.”
Rosselló also stressed that he saw the end of the match, which they won against the Dominican team, recorded, since that same night he had to follow what was happening in the United States Congress that was with the bill in which funds were allocated for the recovery of the island after the passage of both cyclones.
“We reserve space for next year!”, He told them, after becoming two-time champions.
In turn, the secretary of the Island’s Sports and Recreation Department, Adriana Sánchez, indicated that “we have been celebrating since Thursday,” and that the victory “demonstrates the bravery and courage that we need as a people after what we suffered.”
“They show what can be achieved when there is unity before a purpose,” he concluded.
For his part, the administrator of the Criollos, Raúl Rodríguez, said that the team “stood up and showed the best that Puerto Rico has in baseball” and that the island is the “cradle of baseball in the Caribbean.” EFE
