Wimbledon champion Simona Halep has tested positive for COVID-19 and said she is “recovering well from mild symptoms.”
The 29-year-old Romanian, number 2 in the world, had been absent from the US Open due to fears of the virus. He said in August that he preferred to stay in Europe and train.
“I wanted to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19. I am self isolating and recovering from mild symptoms. I feel good, ”Halep said on Twitter.
Halep, a former world No. 1, won Wimbledon in 2019 and the French Open in 2018. Wimbledon was canceled this year due to the pandemic.
Many European countries are seeing an increase in the number of coronavirus infections. New closures were decreed in France, Germany and other countries this week.
