Hamilton achieves record sixth British GP win

Britain’s Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) achieved his sixth victory in the British Grand Prix, the tenth round of the F1 World Championship, held at the Silverstone circuit.

This triumph allows him to become the most successful rider in the English event, beating the Scotsman Jim Clark and the Frenchman Alain Prost (5). And incidentally, Hamilton increased his income from 31 to 39 units at the head of the drivers’ standings, after also taking the point for the best lap in the race.

His Finnish teammate Valtteri Bottas and Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) completed the podium, ahead of Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) and his Dutch teammate Max Verstappen.

German Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was 16th and penultimate – ahead of Mexican Sergio Pérez – after touching the Dutchman’s car on lap 37, which earned him a 10-second penalty.

The British race offered a series of passionate duels on the asphalt, such as the one between the poleman Bottas and Hamilton on lap 4, or Leclerc and Verstappen on laps 14 and 24.

More aggressive on the track than in Austria at the end of June, the Monegasque seems to have learned the lessons of the lost battle against Verstappen of the Netherlands for victory in the previous Grand Prix.

Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. (McLaren), Australian Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Finn Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo Racing), Russian Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and German Nico Hülkenberg (Renault) complete the Top-10. AFP
