Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, a six-time Formula 1 world champion, launched a diversity commission aimed at attracting more blacks to the fields of motorsports, especially science, technology and math studies.
Very active on social media since the start of the global campaign against racism “Black Lives Matter”, Hamilton is the only black driver in F1.
The Hamilton Commission, promoted together with the Royal British Academy of Engineering, wants to make motorsport a community “as diverse as the complex and multicultural world in which we live,” the Mercedes driver explained to the Sunday Times.
“Throughout my career I have fought against racism. They threw things at me when I was karting, there were fans who painted their faces black in one of my first Grands Prix, when I debuted in F1 in 2007 ”, explained the 35-year-old driver. AFP (HN)
